The mission and purpose of the Clifton Heritage Authority is to develop and operate a Heritage Park of national and international significance that preserves and promotes the historical, cultural and natural heritage of The Bahamas.

It is the goal of the Authority to develop and operate facilities and programs to further the preservation, research, management and promotion of the sites, monuments and artifacts at Clifton.

In cooperation with national and international organizations of the highest expertise, the Authority has commenced an ongoing initiative to conduct archaeological and historical investigations that would facilitate the teaching of Bahamians regarding their identity, history and culture as a country.

While protecting and interpreting the ruins are a priority, the land and the sea are of no less importance as they are inseparable from the way of life of the people who lived at Clifton, and indeed the modern Bahamas. In this regard, the Clifton Heritage Park will seek to demonstrate the use of sustainable approaches that would minimize or reverse environmental degradation where practicable.

The Clifton Heritage National Park offers a variety of natural features that include native coppice, eroding cliffs, coastal wetlands, rocky shores, sandy beaches and coral reefs.

A trail system designed to facilitate the observation of  birds and other wildlife in their natural habitats has been implemented throughout the park.

The people of the past left their marks on the land. Visitors are invited to discover their story as expressed through the interpretative signage that will be strategically placed throughout the more than 200 acres of the park.

Created by the Bahamian people, this national park stands as a monument to the generations who helped to build the foundation of The Bahamas today.

It is anticipated that the park will be officially opened by spring 2008.
